Access, Information and Navigation Support in the Labyrinth of Large Buildings The ARIADNE project, funded by the EU, addressed the access and navigation problems experienced by people visiting unfamiliar buildings and environments. The project assessed the development of technology to provide cost effective assistance and support within an environment, and identified the strategies that disabled and non-disabled users adopt when navigating around environments and identifying features. To address the fact that many disabled people do not like visiting public access buildings, or at the very least find the process very stressful, the project examined how technology installed at strategic positions on a journey could enhance the confidence and mobility of all users. The publication ‘Inclusive Buildings – design and management of accessible environments’ is based on the findings of the Ariadne project.
