Lighting for visually impaired people in a non-uniformly lit office environment. In recent years there have been an increasing number of disabled and sensory impaired people in the work place and evidence suggests that this trend will continue. Changes in technology and environmental provision will increase the work opportunities for the sensory impaired worker in the electronic office. Extensive alterations to existing lighting regimes within offices to suit the needs of visually impaired people are unlikely to be acceptable to companies wishing to employ more visually impaired workers, especially if the existing regime already offers adequate lighting to the other staff working within the same space. However, they may be responsive to the provision of adequate lighting if it can be provided easily and economically on a local task lighting basis. This study has developed suggestions on office lighting and task lighting.
