Inclusive Transport Environments: This study addressed the combined issues of lighting and colour design in wayfinding. Visually impaired people should be able to use transport environments with confidence and without stress, and wayfinding issues in a transport environment can escalate in inter-modal travel environments where complex choices and decisions often have to be made. Various public transport environments, where interchange points of transfer occur, including airports, bus and railway stations were examined to identify areas where colour, lighting and design are current factors of difficulty for visually impaired users. Indeed, it is in these areas where clear gaps in ownership of responsibility for designing and managing inter-modal environments often manifest themselves. This research has published guidance on the functionality of environments for all users, including those with restricted visual performance.
